MOTHER-DAUGHTER RUN FLOWER FARM SINCE 2021

With Covid and all of the changes that brought about, came a personal desire to find a new hobby. Now, my kids can attest that I didn’t always have the greenest thumb, but my passion for attempting to grow plants has always been there. With many failed attempts indoors, I decided to direct my passion to the outside. I have little to no experience with outdoor planting, but my next door neighbor (and mother) does!

The pandemic was eye-opening for me. I had the realization that life is unpredictable and as humans, we tend to take for granted all of that life offers. With the unpredictability the pandemic exposed, I knew I wanted to strengthen the bond between my mother and myself because I didn’t know what tomorrow would bring; no one does. Life is far too valuable and too short to not spend enjoy spending time with loved ones.

With decreasing cases and vaccinations available, I could finally spend that quality time with my mother again. An added bonus is that my mother is able to garden with success and had the experience I lacked. I couldn't think of a more perfect way to spend time together.

By the end of the summer in 2021, my yard was flourishing with all sorts of different flowers and plants. I even had a garden with fresh herbs and vegetables. My mother and I were thrilled with the success, but I still felt like something was missing. I was able to create beauty outdoors, but how can I bring this beauty inside?

I stumbled upon an opportunity to build and design flower bouquets for a friend's wedding. I fell in love with creating such beauty! This drove my curiosity and I had to figure out how I could have vases filled with flowers of my own designs. A flower farm about 2 hours north of us in Leelanau called Omena Cut Flowers gave me my answer.

When I visited, I was able to toss an array of cut seasonal flowers into a rough-cut milk jug.  I left the farm with the milk jug of flowers and was able to create three beautiful vase arrangements when I arrived home. I knew this was the answer I have been searching for. Immediately, I started following every Instagram page and flower farm I could find. To continue learning more about this type of farming, I visited any flower farm within driving distance. Using what I had learned, my mother and I began brainstorming as to how we could make this our reality.

Finally, after a year of planning and preparing, both of us are thrilled to have the 2022 flower season be our first growing season for Fleurish Flower Farms. We hope to share our flowers with anyone wanting to bring some beauty to the inside.
